•   Oxidation / Reduction Reactions

  Loss of Electrons is Oxidation - - L. E. O. Gain of Electrons is Reduction - - G. E. R. Remember:   LEO says "GER"                         LEO

•   Oxidation states             Solubility + Oxidation states
•   Single-replacement reactions with metals (and H)
•   Redox reactions bet. nonmetals
•   Balancing Redox reactions   - -   half-reaction method:

  Separate oxidation and reduction; balance each separately Balance metals, halogens, and misc. ions first Balance O by adding H2O Balance H by adding H+ Balance the Charge by adding electrons Remember:   "O, H, Charge!" Multiply the half-reactions to balance electrons lost = gained Add the half-reactions and cancel what you can
